About Me

Betty Marie (she/her) is a double-named storyteller who hails from Houston and is a big fan of new work and truthful storytelling.   

She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas State University, under the direction of Kaitlin Hopkins, with a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre and is a National Young Arts Winner.

Betty Marie has performed all over the world. She has been in original workshops of new works such as The World According to Snoopy! with Larry Grossman and Adam Cates, as well as Hooray for Iceboy! (Mark Hollmann/Urinetown) and Columbus! The Musical. You can hear her on the original cast recording of Columbus!

 She has lead numerous regional productions like Pippin (Catherine), Hands on a Hardbody (Kelli), and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Shy.) Betty Marie also had the opportunity to play Patty Simcox (u/s Marty) in David Ian Production’s inaugural cast of Grease on the second largest ship in the world with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. 

In addition to being a performer, Betty Marie is a director, acting coach, and guest speaker in Houston, TX. She coaches private lessons, but you can also catch her classes at Theatre Under the Stars and HSPVA. She was the Assistant Director to Tony Nominated Director and Artistic Director of TUTS, Dan Knechtges, in Theatre Under the Stars’ latest production of The Little Mermaid, the Assistant Director and Female Swing of TUTS’ production of Cinderella, and Director of 9 to 5 and Urinetown at Stageworks Theatre.

She recently directed Pippin with TUTS Education, was the Associate Director of the critically acclaimed production of Newsies in TUTS’ Main Stage season at the Hobby Center, and the U/S for Cheryl/Olga/Misty/Kelli in TUTS’ production of The Ugly X-Mas Sweater Musical during the holiday season.

Betty Marie loves autumn in New York, the color blue, jazz music, and is ready for Skinny Pop to sponsor her. She also loves to travel and has been to 11 countries and counting.
